The Angriest Man in Brooklyn is a dark comedy drama starring Robin Williams and Mila Kunis. It's a laugh out loud comedy that tugs on the heart strings. Henry Altmann (Robin Williams) is told by his doctor (Mila Kunis) he has 90 minutes of his life left and becomes determined to set things straight before he dies. Williams is phenomenal as he has you loving a character you would rather loath. He just brings himself into the character turning the anger into a joke and the drama into a touching scene. Kunis gives one of her strongest performances of her career as Dr. Sharon Gill although she just isn't believable of being a doctor. Williams and Kunis are a strange pairing of actors for lead roles yet that helps there character's differences play out for the films story.
The story contains less laughs towards the end but the drama it delves into is relevant for the characters conclusions. The jokes are funny as Williams is on point as ever with his line delivery. The drama on the other hand isn't just deep in emotion at times but has some real meaning to it about life and the people closest. The combination of dark humour and the drama help the dealing with death scenario easier to watch yet still have the necessary impact on the viewer. Directed by Phil Alden Robinson, famous for Sum of All Fears (2002), I can't help but feel slightly disappointed in his approach. He plays it simple; no flashy angles and shots just the same basic close ups and distance shots we're used to in most dramas. What did surprise me was the colour palette. The sky remained a vivid blue and everyday items and sights were brightly coloured too. Understandably to show their value and not to be taken for granted and to contrast the almost bleak nature of the film. The Angriest Man in Brooklyn is a not a must see movie but it does have heart and Robin Williams in one of his last performances and that alone is a reason to watch this emotional and enjoyable film.
