Directed by Ben Wheatley and starring Tom Hiddleston, High-Rise is a drama thriller set in an alternate dystopian reality.
The Angriest Man in Brooklyn is a dark comedy drama starring Robin Williams and Mila Kunis. It's a laugh out loud comedy that tugs on the heart strings.
Turbo Kid is Mad Max meets Kick-Ass. It is a charming comedy that plays on tropes to most action films and children's films of the '80s and '90s.
John Wick: Chapter 2 is a sequel that doesn't disappoint, hitting harder and faster than its predecessor.
John Wick is one of the best action films released this decade with more head shots than a models portfolio.
Although a spin-off from the X-Men movies, Legion appears to be more of a stand-alone story at this stage as all the characters are new and no references to the films as of yet (that I noticed).
The Hunter is an Australian film from 2011 that I feel slipped through the cracks and so I'd like to place a spotlight on it for a while.
Starring Willem Dafoe as lead character Martin David, a hunter (possibly an assassin) hired by an organisation to seek out a Tasmanian Tiger. The Tasmanian Tiger has been extinct since the 1930's, why would this organisation send him for such a creature with only a few possible sightings? La La Land is a wondrous blend of golden age Hollywood and modern cinematography, it's present days Singin' in the Rain.
The film opens with a very colourful song and dance sequence that screams classical musical but we can see modern Los Angeles, instantly setting up this movies tone. Soon after, we're quickly introduced to Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a faithful Jazz musician as they chase their dreams. |
