John Wick: Chapter 2 is a sequel that doesn't disappoint, hitting harder and faster than its predecessor. Living up to expectations, John Wick: Chapter 2 delivers the anticipated thrills the action fans crave. Chad Stahelski returns to direct, only this time David Leitch is only an executive producer. Fortunately this does not affect the quality at all. Derek Kolstad reprises his writing talents for this second outing too. Kolstad is most likely a key reason to this film being an improvement to the first as the pacing of the story is fantastic. Chapter 2 just leaves you breathless as the momentum builds unlike the first film which had times where momentum paused with time to find your breath.
The world created in the first film had some interesting concepts for the world of crime which worked so well and now introducing more mythology as its story goes international and introduces us to more characters, elevating this films quality. Kolstad has done brilliant work with making this not just a great action film but a superb sequel and added a couple if not a major hint in this story at a possible Chapter 3. The Action scenes are directed and choreographed just as brutal and graceful as its predecessor except this time, the action starts sooner and is more frequent. The violence is just captivating as we see Wick (Keanu Reeves) do everything from before and more. The characters this time don't have the same emotional drive from the first as they're all driven by ambition this time around and so the lighting isn't the same but the colours are still very monochrome and cold. It just shows how dark and cold this world is and the characters within it. John Wick: Chapter 2 is full of excitement, it packs a more powerful punch than John Wick and leaves you wanting a Chapter 3. It's a strong sequel and with room for a follow on. Mr. Cynic rates this a 9/10
