Free Fire is Reservoir Dogs with more action and laugh out loud comedy. With an all-star cast and an enthralling adrenaline rush, it could be your most entertaining film of the year. A guns trade goes bad is an understatement to describe the plot. A gun trade goes to hell and becomes a shoot'em up would be more accurate. The simple meeting to buy guns at an abandoned industrial building soon becomes complicated when one man recognises another and within no time, bullets are flying.
The action is fast, fun and loud. With it's almost real take yet not too real to make light of the characters getting perforated (which seems like every two minutes). The quips are just as or more frequent than the gun fire, so there's never a dull moment while these colourful criminals bleed crimson. Dialogue is a perfect example of wisecracks. Each character has there own blend of humour and toss the teasing line to one another like grenades. The characters play off each other so well batting these "grenades" back and forth like a game of intense tennis. The acting was smooth but it's expected with talent of high caliber. Putting Sharlto Copley, Cillian Murphy, Armie Hammer and Brie Larson into this quality scripted dialogue exchange of classic dry British humour then it cannot lose a laugh. These actors play their parts with a deeper sense of character than the dialogue can give which brings this film and the humour to life. Ben Wheatley proves again that he knows how to bring a film together, with just one location, about 90 minutes and a good handful of characters he has created an action heavy comedy that should remain enjoyable for a few more viewings. Let's not forget his usual writing partner Amy Jump who is the one we should be thanking for adding these playful and charming lines for the actors to bring to life. Free Fire is quick on the draw and quick on the quip with bullets flying as fast as the words rolling off the characters tongues. It's enjoyable action and enticing dialogue create a frenzy of fun on the eyes and ears. It is a must see movie of this year and due to be in cinemas on the 31st March in the UK and 21st April in the US. Mr. Cynic rates this 8.5/10
