From director Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Trilogy) comes a witty, new impressive heist movie with a talented ensemble cast. Debut writer Rebecca Blunt has hit a career starting high with this sensational film. Managing to walk the line between being a slick heist film and a offbeat comedy, Logan Lucky has been a wash of colour over the many dull movies released over the summer.
The plot is smart but it doesn't dangle that fact over the audiences heads and injects a wonderful sense of fun and humour through its array of quirky characters. The characters are the highlight, the dialogue is flawless and the cast don't fail at keeping up with the script. Tatum (Magic Mike) is on top form with one of his most different performances but that doesn't put new-comer Riley Keough (It Comes At Night) in the background at all, she shines just as bright as the other stars in this film from Daniel Craig (Skyfall) to Hilary Swank (The Black Dahlia). Although Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) gives a career best displaying timely delivery for comedy and charming on-screen presence. Soderbergh has a great eye for these heist films as displayed with the Ocean's Trilogy as he's proven it again. Showing the audience exactly what they need to see and leaving out just the right information so we can't put it together until it's too late. The film is seamless, the only drawback is it leaves wanting more from it after it rolls the credits. It's quirky, it's charming, it's hilarious, it's smart. It's the qualities you seek in a partner squeezed into a two-hour movie. Mr. Cynic Rates this 8.5/10
