The fourth installment of the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) is now here and it's worthwhile. Wonder Woman is a film that resonates among fans as it's imagery and characters are true to the source material. That doesn't mean this can't be enjoyed by people who don't know the comics as this contains what most cinema goers are wanting to see. Director Patty Jenkins (Monster) has done a superb job of carrying on the DCEU's tone set in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and building on it. The colour pallet is the best example as it has the dark, gritty effects of Batman V Superman and then we get scenes with a brighter and colourful tone. Slow motion returns for the fight scenes, this seems to be a staple for the DCEU's style as it's featured in all four films now. I think the use of slow motion really enhances the fights as it brings the sensation of looking at a panel from a comic but also increases the sense of impact from the choreography of the scenes.
The cast is a fantastic example of character depiction as Gal Gadot gets to explore the character deeper than in Batman V Superman and she seems to have a strong understanding of what Wonder Woman represents. Chris Pine is almost a perfect choice for Captain Steve Trevor who accidentally finds Themyscira (home of Wonder Woman and the other Amazons) and introduces her to the rest of the world. I'd love to get into other casting choices but I've chose to keep this spoiler free. The character depiction isn't down to simply the cast doing well, the script is a big part too. Allan Heinberg wrote the screenplay and this is his first feature length, it's safe to say he has a great understanding of dialogue to progress character, story and entertain. The story however was put together by Zack Snyder who has helped shape the world the DCEU has. Snyder has clearly thought about the story for Wonder Woman as it may be rather simple, there's a bit more to it and it pays off. Wonder Woman is enthralling and definitely a must watch of the summer. A must watch for the comic fans and fans of superhero films. This could be what brings DC back into the playing field with Marvel. Mr. Cynic rates this film 8/10
